Psi Skeptics who have modified their position

Postby donsalmon » Sat May 29, 2010 2:39 pm

Hi:

Several years ago I posted an article on parapsychology skeptics over at the Integral World website (http://integralworld.net/salmon2.html) It was mostly based on Chris Carter's book, "Parapsychology and the Skeptics, with some more stuff I added that I found elsewhere. If anybody has any other information regarding arch-skeptics/debunkers who have modified - in even a tiny way - their skepticism, I'd be very interested in hearing about it.

Here's some of my favorites:

Susan Blackmore, in her autobiography, on psychokinesis: "I don't know, I don't know!, I don't know!!!"

The "amazing" Randi, on his 1 million dollar challenge: "I've always got a way out."

James Alcock, after writing 40 pages attacking the PEAR psychokinesis studies; "There certainly is a mystery here"

Ray Hyman: "The case for psychic functioning has never been stronger" (this was inserted somewhere amongst his rants on the CIA remote viewing experiments)

I understand that science writer John McCrone recently modified his dogmatic anti-psi stance. And I'm guessing many are aware of the very recent (March, 2010?) statement of long time debunker Richard Wiseman, that by the best standards of modern science, telepathy, remote viewing, precognition and psychokinesis have been proven" (of course, he hastened to add, that's still not good enough for him, since psi is so strange, it requires higher standards than anything else in science!!)

So if anybody has any other similar examples, I'd much appreciate hearing about it.

Thanks,
Don Salmon

Don,
Thanks for your post.

I was a skeptic for a number of years, my curiosity though made me research, talk, and at times experience things. I am still a skeptic, but I know there is more to what we call 'paranormal' than science publicly acknowledges. IMHO.
