Why is yawning contagious? Is yawning telepathic?

I wonder why yawns are contagious, today I was sitting across the room from a girl I saw her yawn and was thinking oh no I'm next before my thought was over I was yawning. I mean, you are probably yawning now just reading this, right? If you say the word yawn to me I will yawn. The idea of yawing seems contagious.

What about when you don't see or hear someone yawn but you also yawn at the same time, you start to yawn, look around you and find out that you yawned together?? is that telepathy ?

We think of boredom or being tired as the reason for yawning, but is that the real reason?

I know that yawning makes you draw in breath, filling your lungs with air; this increases the oxygen supply to the blood.

But is raising the oxygen levels in the blood the reason why we yawn? and why is yawning contagious?

Do you ever find yourself yawning,then turn your head around only to find another person yawning? even when this person has not seen or heard you yawn, and when you also have not seen this person yawn? As if you both started to yawn almost at the same time without seeing, hearing or knowing of each other? Sometimes the other person yawning is in a room next door or in a car on the road..
